Please read carefully for special registration and participation considerations.

Register by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14. Adds and drops will be accepted until Friday, January 16, at 5:00 p.m. After this time, drops will be assessed an additional $10 per entry.
Categories
Dramatic Interp, Duo, Ensemble, Extemp*, Humorous Interp, Novice Poetry, Novice Prose, Oratorical Declamation, Original Oratory, Original Works, Poetry, Prose, Storytelling.
*We are going “retro” with Extemp. Extempers may not use electronic devices to access their sources during the tournament. All sources must be printed or clipped in advance and brought on paper to the tournament. Printing will not be possible in the school on the day of the meet. We suggest indexing with stickie notes, file folders, and other tried-and-true methods from the days before Extemp went tech.
Novice level is for students competing in their first year of high school forensics. Students who have previously competed in any speech or debate events are not considered novices.
Tabulation
We will have some old-fashioned fun by running a “throwback” Tabulation system staffed by paper Tab whizzes from back in the day! In order to allow smooth running, please remind students, judges, coaches, chaperones, and anyone else in your group that the Tab room is off limits and to please knock and wait at the door if there are any questions.
Fees
$7 per entry ($14 Duo, $21 Ensemble).
New schools will be charged half price. Entry fees are capped at $140 per team. Students may enter in either one or two categories.
Please Make P.O.s and checks payable to Skowhegan Area High School Speech Team.
Judges
Please supply your own trained judges. Note judge conflicts on your registration. You must provide one judge for every five entries or fraction thereof. Please bring enough judges to cover your needs. If you need to hire a judge, please email Maura well in advance—we will try to find someone for you to contact but cannot guarantee a hire.
This is the last speech tournament before State finals; therefore, it expected that judges arrive prepared to adjudicate starting with Round One. Shadow requests will be granted at the discretion of the tournament host, and only if the judge pool allows; shadowing is not guaranteed and not encouraged. Please train judges in advance of the tournament. Refer to MFA training resources: https://www.maineforensic.org/resources/judging/
Please make sure your judges bring timing devices; MFA does not provide timers.
Awards
Ribbons will be awarded for individual first-, second-, and third-place wins and honorable mentions. Each participating school will be acknowledged during awards. No Sweeps will be awarded.
Food
Breakfast and lunch—including comfort foods reminiscent of the days when mayonnaise was considered a food group—will be provided for judges, coaches, and drivers.
Students will be able to purchase light breakfast items and lunch.
